The “greatest music of his life” is being created, according to Freddie Gibbs, who has revealed that he is now working on four joint albums.
While Gibbs couldn’t provide much details about the projects at this time in his lengthy interview with XXL, he did tease collaborations with renowned producers The Alchemist, Madlib, and Boi-1da.
He stated, “I’m going to hit you with some stuff that you thought you were ready for, but you really ain’t ready for.” “Remember that Alchemist and Madlib aren’t going anywhere. And I’m in the studio with Boi-1da right now, and it’s heavy. There’s no need to quit while I’m creating the best music of my life. Since I am the king of R&B, I must also record that album.
The Gary, Indiana native also revealed a few names on his wish list of potential collaborations, including JAY-Z, Lil Wayne, Kodak Black, and Future, who XXL described as his “current favorites.”
The news of Gangsta Gibbs’ upcoming music comes after his fifth studio album, Soul Age, was independently released on September 30. With a top 20 Billboard 200 debut and a first-week sales total of about 22,000 album-equivalent units, it was his most lucrative solo effort to date.
His remarks are quite unexpected given that the ESGN executive hinted that Soul Separately would be his farewell album. No, this is my final album. During a Reddit Ask Me Anything (AMA) session last year, a fan questioned Gibbs about the suspected sequel to 2019’s Bandana. Gibbs said, “Ask Madlib.
In an interview with Bootleg Kev in October of last year, Gibbs reaffirmed that opinion and indicated his lack of enthusiasm to make another full-length CD.
“Every time I release an album, I worry that I won’t make another one. I have a lot of things to do, the aspiring actor acknowledged. “Throughout the entire album-recording period, I seldom saw my children. Dawg, I’m really ready to unwind now. I doubt that I will be able to record an album in the future.
The 40-year-old rapper, however, also hinted at the possibility of working with The Alchemist once more to follow up their Grammy-nominated Alfredo collaboration by admitting they “flirt” with the concept frequently. If I were to make another record, he declared, “That would be the one.”
Aside from his work in music, Freddie Gibbs made his acting debut in 2022 as the lead in Diego Ongaro’s Down with the King. According to The New York Times, this performance should have earned Gibbs a nomination for Best Actor at the upcoming Academy Awards.
The outlet’s culture critics Manohla Dargis and A.O. Scott went through each Oscar category and chose those they believed were snubbed out of a proper nomination, placing Gibbs alongside Daniel Kaluuya, Jafar Panahi, Franz Rogowski, and Viggo Mortensen in an article titled “And The 2023 Oscar Nominees Should Be…”
In response to the high acclaim, Gibbs tweeted “Bruhhh” and a head-exploding emoji.
Prior to being cast in the part, Gibbs informed Desus & Mero that he started studying his favorite Hollywood performers, such as Samuel L. Jackson.
He stated, “I’ve been researching cats like Samuel L. Jackson, who happens to be my all-time favorite actor. “So I’ve just been looking at some material and trying to figure out what I want to do, and like I said, really studying and writing and starting to get a vibe for it,” she said.
