For a fourth Friday movie, Ice Cube claimed that he submitted two scripts, both of which Warner Brothers rejected. During a recent visit on Drink Champs, which was captured as LL Cool J was performing Rock The Bells, Cube detailed what went wrong.
Cube said to hosts N.O.R.E. and DJ EFN, “I’m trying to get it out of Warner Brothers, they don’t believe in the culture guy.” I had two scripts. I only wrote one, and it was crap. They said, “You know, we don’t want Craig and Day-Day in jail since they got arrested for selling marijuana before it was legal!”

Then, after they rejected it, there were all these awful movies about being in jail, such as Orange Is The New Black, he said. Get Tough. Then I wrote another script, which was basically about… the newer residents of the neighborhood fighting with the older residents, and Craig having to intervene because Smokey’s son is the new Deebo and he’s wylin! They tripped over it, screwed about, and John Witherspoon then moved on. They just messed things up when Deebo passed away.
The series “certainly needs to continue,” according to LL Cool J.
In 1995, the first Friday movie came out. In 2000 and 2002, respectively, the sequels Next Friday and Friday After Next were released. For years, Cube has expressed his desire to see a final Friday movie produced.
