Along with other cutting-edge tools, a “robot dog” is being added to New York’s arsenal for battling crime.

Mayor Eric Adams announced the devices’ release from the pound alongside the police chiefs in Times Square.

When the city initially tested one two years ago, critics complained it was weird, but the man stated he was moving on despite their criticism.

The mayor added, “A few loud people were against it and we took a step back.”

That is not how I conduct myself. I base my decisions on what is best for the city.

The 32 kg remote control robot dog will be employed in risky circumstances, such a hostage standoff.

The mayor advised putting Digidog inside a building instead of dispatching police if a suspect was barricaded inside or if there was an armed intruder.

In addition, a cone-headed autonomous security robot outfitted with several cameras and sensors will be used in a seven-month trial beginning in the summer, initially overnight within Times Square station.

It will initially travel in company of a human assistant and glide at a leisurely 3mph.

It has already been deployed to curb crime on several college campuses and in retail malls.

The StarChase GPS attachment system, which may shoot a tracking device at stolen cars to evade a police chase, is the third novel equipment that New York police will test.

It can be shot from a handheld device or placed on an automobile. Officers will initially test it for 90 days.

Some claim that the money would be better used to fund important services and have criticized the force for spending money on the technology.

The Surveillance Technology Oversight Project’s executive director, Albert Fox Cahn, also questioned the necessity of the kit.

“The NYPD is transforming awful science fiction into appalling law enforcement. Real safety, not a RoboCop imitation, is what New York needs, he claimed.
