On May 20, HBO will broadcast the documentary Love to Love You, Donna Summer.
According to the network, the movie is “an in-depth look at the iconic artist as she creates music that takes her from the avant-garde music scene in Germany, to the glitter and bright lights of dance clubs in New York, to worldwide acclaim, her voice becoming the defining soundtrack of an era.”
The documentary features home video footage and old interviews with the Queen of Disco together with fresh commentary from her intimate friends, family, and colleagues. It had its local premiere at SXSW and its international premiere at the 73rd Berlin International Film Festival.
The Grammy-winning musician passed away from lung cancer in 2012 at the age of 63. The songs “Last Dance,” “MacArthur Park,” “Heaven Knows,” “Hot Stuff,” “Bad Girls,” and “On the Radio” are among her best-known works.
