With Game 2 breaking a record for the lowest TV ratings in Fall Classic history, fans are still abandoning the World Series.
According to Sports Media Watch, Game 2 of the World Series between the Texas Rangers and the Arizona Diamondbacks had an average rating of 4.0 and 8.15 million viewers on FOX on Saturday night, making it the least viewed and least rated World Series game ever. It performed worse than Game 1’s 9.17 million viewers and 4.6 rating.
The previous low was the Los Angeles Dodgers vs. Tampa Bay Rays game during the epidemic, which attracted 8.34 million viewers and a 4.3 rating. The World Series ratings history is nicely broken down by Sports Media Watch.
The absence of big market Major League Baseball teams in contention (think of the Dodgers or Yankees) and a lack of big-name stars are the causes of the declining ratings.

Game 2 of the Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros series from the previous year received 10.79 million viewers and a 5.3 rating, according to Sports Media Watch.
Despite a full day of college football, Saturday’s game was still the highest-rated athletic event of the day, despite the World Series’ declining viewership.
