Marlon Wayans Admits To Being "Ignorant" Regarding His Son's Coming Out As Transgender

Scary Movie actor Marlon Wayans has discussed the moment his son came out as transgender in an interview.

Shawn, 21, and Kai, 23, are the sons of Wayans and his ex-wife, Angelica Zachary.

Since then, the 51-year-old comedian and actor has described his reaction when Kai, who uses the pronouns “he” and “they,” disclosed that he is transgender.

Wayans discussed the character Kai in his forthcoming comedy set titled Skittles or Rainbow Child during an interview on The Breakfast Club.

He stated, “This pertains to my daughter. It was a transition for my daughter to become a son. Currently, my daughter Amai is Kai.

“And so I talk about the transition – not […] their transition – but my transition as a parent going from ignorance and denial to complete unconditional love and acceptance.”

Wayans stated that he believes “many parents out there” “need to hear that message.”

“I am certain that I am handling it,” he continued. “It was a very painful situation for me, but man, it’s one of the best, funniest hours, I could probably ever imagine.”

Wayans observes that he “always jokes,” so when Kai initially informed him of their intention to transition, he responded, “You’re transitioning into your brother; you look identical to him.”

Nevertheless, the actor proceeded: “However, they remain flawless in their brilliance. “Brightest, most widely read, and most intelligent Wayans.”

Kai is aware that his father is “still working on [his] pronouns” and that he acknowledges his affection for him.

“When they see me attempting, they respond, ‘I’m happy,'” said Wayans. However, I must respect their wishes; as a parent, all I want is for my children to be liberated. I desire for them to be thought and spirit liberated, allowing them to be themselves. Enhanced self-awareness facilitates greater self-control; living in accordance with one’s truth promotes a joyful life.

“However the f**k do I send them forth into the world with that kind of confidence if they are incapable of attaining that within the confines of their families with their father and mother?” Furthermore, while I am immensely pleased of them for being themselves, that does not imply they lack the ability to make jokes.”

Wayans further stated Kai endorsed his comedic performance, resolving: “This set is vital to me, so I intend to perform it right here. What is most significant to me? An comedic work. What is most significant to me? My offspring. The subject that I hold dearest is change.

“Therefore, I urge all of you world leaders who are participating in this summit to consider these individuals and this synaptic connection, as well as how to be inclusive of the next generation. There are many gray areas, but the children with whom we interact are unique; we cannot continue with the same methods and expect them to innovate.
