TikTok has announced a new tool called “Add to Music App” that allows users to save songs they discover on TikTok to the streaming services where they listen to their music.

TikTok announced on Tuesday (November 14) that the Add to Music App feature will be available “in partnership with the major music streaming services, including Amazon Music and Spotify.”

This feature is also available to Apple Music subscribers, according to MBW. This function is accessible on Amazon Music for Prime members and Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers.

‘Add to Music App’ will initially be available to users in the United States and the United Kingdom in the coming weeks, with testing in more areas to follow.

TikTok boasts in its press release that it is “known for being one of the world’s best places to discover both new and catalog music, constantly creating viral trends which drive music listening on streaming services” .

According to Ole Obermann, TikTok’s Global Head of Music Business Development, the new cross-platform music storage tool establishes “a direct link between discovery on TikTok and consumption on a music streaming service.”

He went on to say that this makes it “easier than ever for music fans to enjoy the full-length song on the music streaming service of their choice, thereby generating even greater value for artists and rightsholders” .

ByteDance-owned TikTok’s collaboration and integration with music streaming services not owned by ByteDance is a significant step forward for the company, which currently operates its own premium streaming service in numerous territories.

Following the service’s original launch in Brazil and Indonesia in July, TikTok Music became available to the public in Australia, Singapore, and Mexico (without Universal’s catalog) last month.

The TikTok Music app has “a wide range” of “social music streaming features” that connect the music streaming app to the main TikTok short-form video app, according to the business.

Among these is the ability to ‘connect With TikTok,’ which allows you to connect your TikTok and TikTok Music accounts.

It also allows you to play ‘TikTok Hits’ by streaming full versions of popular TikTok songs. There is also a function called ‘Music Discovery With TikTok,’ which TikTok describes as “letting you record your music discovery journey in TikTok and explore the songs in TikTok Music.”

Meanwhile, in the United States and the United Kingdom, where TikTok Music is not yet accessible, the new Add to Music App option can now be utilized as a direct link to other streaming services such as Spotify and Amazon Music.

The new feature will now appear as a ‘Add Song’ button next to a track name at the bottom of a TikTok video in the For You Feed.

When a user initially selects the Add Song button, they have the option of saving it to their choice music streaming service.

The track will then be stored to a user’s selected music streaming service installed on their device’s default playlist, but users can also choose to add the item to a new or existing playlist that they have established.

Following the initial usage of the Add to Music App function, the music app selected will become the default music streaming service for future track saves, though users can alter the default music streaming service under settings at any time.

Users can also add songs to their music apps from an artist’s Sound Detail Page.
