It doesn’t seem like YouTube will be easing up on its tough policies regarding users of ad-blockers.

YouTube viewers who have installed ad-blockers complained about sluggish load times in a Reddit thread that Android Police had previously seen. However, after disabling the addon, their load times considerably decreased.

This is in response to YouTube’s harsh measures against users of ad blockers from the previous year. Ad-blockers are against YouTube’s terms of service, according to parent company Google. The service’s ad-generated revenue, which it uses to fund its operations and pay creators, is similarly reduced by ad-blockers.

YouTube has previously slowed down loading times in an effort to combat ad-blockers. Users of Microsoft Edge, Firefox, and occasionally Google Chrome experienced slow load times in November.

Regardless of the browser they are using, users using ad blockers may have encountered suboptimal viewing in the last week, including loading delays. A YouTube representative emailed Cord Cutters News at the time, saying, “Users who have uninstalled their ad blockers may still experience a temporary delay in loading, and should try refreshing their browser.”

The ongoing campaign also seeks to drive users to YouTube Premium, the platform’s premium subscription service. In addition to family and student rates, the subscription costs $13.99 per month and provides an ad-free experience. Customers can browse YouTube Music Premium and download videos for offline viewing with a subscription.

YouTube has had success in spite of user opposition. In November, Parks Associate’s top 10 U.S. subscription streaming video list was overtaken by YouTube Premium. Furthermore, Google’s YouTube ad income for the third quarter of 2023 was $7.95 billion, up from $7.07 billion in 2022.

It took some time for YouTube to respond to comments.
