The 96th Oscars on ABC received 19.5 million viewers, up 37% from the previous year and the most in four years.
ABC attributed some of the higher numbers to the broadcast’s earlier start time. It didn’t hurt that films like Best Picture Oppenheimer and Barbie were massive box office successes.
Viewing peaked in the final half-hour, with 21.9 million total viewers.
The program received a 3.81 rating among adults aged 18 to 49, according to Nielsen’s quick national data.
