With the growth of artificial intelligence, many people are speculating on what the future will look like, and Bill Gates has weighed in.
As with any new piece of technology, some believe it will change the game, while others believe it is a passing fad.
Sometimes they’re right on the money; remember Google Glass? Didn’t think so.
Sometimes they couldn’t be further from the truth. In 1998, American economist Paul Krugman predicted that the internet would be a passing phenomenon, growing slowly.

With Artificial Intelligence, Microsoft co-founder Bill Gates has shared his opinions on AI and its role in the future.
Gates stated in an interview with Dax Shepard on the Armchair Expert podcast that AI will not solve problems that people aren’t currently proficient at.
He described his own usage of AI, adding, “I’m using it all the time and saying, ‘Okay, no, it’s not good enough for this — but wow, it’s good enough for that.'”

“If it’s a problem that humans are not good at dealing with, then present techniques don’t create some novel approach,”
He explained that AI works far faster at jobs that humans execute slowly.
According to Gates, AI will not solve challenges that are difficult to forecast or measure, such as the creative process, human pleasure, or relationship fulfillment, on its own.
This makes logical, given humans have always fought with these issues and achieved varying degrees of success throughout history.

“I actually think in mental counseling AIs will play a role, but boy, we’re going to have to be very careful about that,” Gates said.
“That’s going to require a lot of work that has not been done yet.”
The tech entrepreneur also claimed that many AI computers simply get things wrong and sometimes struggle with sophisticated math.
“It doesn’t know to check its answers,” he went on to say.
“A Sudoku puzzle, you have to do a lot of recursive reasoning and it doesn’t know to take extra time.”
Gates said that the AI claims to have’mistyped’ rather than admitting its error.
“It’s so apologetic, and it says it’ll try again, but of course it gets it wrong again.”
Give it some time, and I’m confident we’ll be able to create an artificial intelligence program that solves sudoku puzzles precisely.
