DJ Mister Cee, a key figure in hip hop radio culture, has died… TMZ confirmed.
Hot 97, the station where Mister Cee built his foundation, released a touching statement to commemorate his life and achievements… “As a family at HOT 97 and WBLS, we are devastated by the loss of our dear Mister Cee. He was more than simply a DJ; he was a cornerstone of our stations, giving joy to countless listeners with his famed ‘Throwback at Noon and Friday Night Live’ programs.”

The station continues, “Mr. Cee’s influence reached far beyond the airwaves, molding the very fabric of NYC’s DJ culture. Our hearts are heavy as we express our love and condolences to his family and the fans he impacted via his music. Rest easy, Mr. Cee. “Your legacy will last forever.”
50 Cent, who represented Cee in 2011 throughout his spate of legal difficulties, was among the renowned hip hop mourners honoring Cee’s contributions to the culture.
Born Calvin LeBrun in Brooklyn, Cee began his career as a dj for Big Daddy Kane, but is best known for finding Notorious B.I.G. in the early 1990s, prior to his signing with Diddy’s Bad Boy Records; his ‘Best of Biggie’ mixtape is regarded as one of the greatest street projects ever produced.

Cee was still working at the radio station and uploading radio mixes to his SoundCloud account when he died. He was known as “The Finisher,” yet his legacy will definitely endure.
Cee was 57.
