Eminem has released a new music video for his most recent single, “Tobey,” in which the icon stalks and kills himself.
The video, directed by Cole Bennett and starring fellow Detroit rappers Big Sean and BabyTron, depicts the trio in their hometown of Detroit, with the camera spotlighting several duplicates of each rapper as they perform their lines.
“Tobey” is the second single from Eminem’s upcoming twelfth studio album, “The Death of Slim Shady (Coup De Grâce),” due out on July 12. The song, which was released last Tuesday, discusses Eminem’s reaction to statements made by rap icon Melle Mel, who claimed that Eminem’s inclusion on a top five rappers list was due to his race.

The song begins with Eminem arguing: “So when I get dissed though by a pioneer who is one of the reasons why I am here / They tell me that I should just let the shit go and slide / Melle Mel shouldn’t get no reply, that man is a legend / Bitch, so am I.”

At the end of the video, the emblem morphs into the renowned horror villain Jason, slashes himself, and holds a chainsaw to his arm. The video lives up to the expectation of Eminem ready to lay down his popular alter persona, Slim Shady.
The release of “Tobey” heightens anticipation for The Death of Slim Shady, which Eminem announced in April during the NFL Draft in Detroit. To promote the album, he made a video based on “Unsolved Mysteries” and published an obituary for his Slim Shady alter persona in the Detroit Free Press.
In late May, Eminem released the project’s debut single, “Houdini,” which references Megan Thee Stallion, the Steve Miller Band, and his own 2002 smash, “Without Me.” While facts concerning the album are scant, Dr. Dre has stated that he helped to its production.
