Noah Presgrove, 6 feet 1, was a natural athlete on the football, wrestling, cross-country, and track teams at Comanche High School in Oklahoma, where he appeared to know everyone.

“It didn’t matter who you were, you got along with Noah,” says Noah’s older brother, Dailen Presgrove, 24, a school teacher.

After graduation in 2023, Noah intended to join the military alongside a cousin. “He was a good, respectful kid,” his grandma Deborah “Nana” Smith tells a source in this week’s cover story.

Smith helped raise Noah while his mother, Kasey Elliot, battled substance misuse throughout his childhood. “So many people cared about him,” Smith explains.

That became obvious in the days following Noah’s inexplicable death on September 4, 2023, when his lifeless body was discovered beside Highway 81, with severe wounds but no explanation for how he sustained them.

A year later, as state police continue to investigate after ruling out murder, Noah’s family claims they have been looking for the truth on their own.

It began, in part, when cousins from his large family tree gathered to lament last year.

At one of the meetings, they were greeted by Kathy Bingham, a private investigator whose grandson is a relative of Noah. The youngster, distraught, had phoned her for help.

“I told him, ‘Hang on – we’re going to find out what occurred,'” Bingham recounts.”

She has subsequently spent months focusing on partygoers who saw Noah immediately before he died, gathering their accounts to create a timeline of his final hours until, perhaps, the exact moment of his death is discovered.

In April, Dailen joined in, conducting his own interviews, taking notes, and cross-referencing witness testimony.

“Somebody knows something,” he says. Speaking with PEOPLE for this week’s cover story, the family expressed hope that Noah’s story will motivate someone who knows the truth to speak forward.

According to a spokesman, state police are unable to divulge much about their investigation because it is continuing.

Nonetheless, records seen by PEOPLE confirm certain information. Noah’s death was reported just before 6 a.m. local time on September 4. “It looked awful odd,” one of the drivers told 911.

According to Noah’s autopsy, he had an ATV “rollover incident” with some other males the night before, after which “he got into an argument” at the party and fled.

“There are so many possibilities, and nothing about the injury pattern will help narrow it down any further,” says Dr. Priya Banerjee, a board-certified forensic pathologist who reviewed Noah’s autopsy — which reveals his cause of death was blunt force trauma — but is unrelated to the investigation.

Bingham, the private investigator looking into Noah’s case, intends to provide law enforcement with her own collected testimonies soon, focusing on “two people in particular” who she believes know what happened to Noah and the shorts found at the scene, which Noah’s best friend, Jack Newton, claims he was wearing when he left the party just hours before his body was discovered.

Bingham declined to provide further information, but did declare, “We’re getting closer.”

“We won’t stop,” Dailen continues, “until Noah has justice.”
