In his legal battle with his former marriage counselor, who is suing him for harassment, Dr. Dre has achieved a slight win.
In 2018, Dre and his now-ex-wife Nicole hired Dr. Charles Sophy to mediate the dissolution of their more than two-decade marriage.
Sophy was given a temporary restraining order against the renowned producer earlier this year, but the judge decided there was insufficient evidence to make it permanent.
Citing Dre’s text messages as proof of violent threats, Sophy stated that he was afraid for his safety.
Dre claims that there were no threats in the texts, but he does not dispute sending the ones accusing Sophy of malpractice. In the end, the judge granted his request and revoked the restraining order.
In his lawsuit, Sophy made a lot of outrageous accusations, one of which was that Dr. Dre tried to scare the therapist by sending him fictitious FBI agents.
According to the lawsuit, “[Dre] chose to vent his frustrations about the mediation on Dr. Sophy — frustrations that showed themselves in a nearly year-long sustained campaign of late-night texts, threats of intimidation and violence, and homophobic rhetoric — rather than viewing the mediation process as a chance for healing.”
Damages of $10 million are sought in the complaint.

Dre quickly retaliated against the accusations, accusing Sophy of racism, a charge he refutes.
The co-founder of the N.W.A. also claimed that Sophy had sued him in reprisal for his complaining of misbehavior to the California Osteopathic Medical Board.
In a statement, Dre’s attorney said that Dr. Sophy “in gross violation of all applicable standards of care, inserted himself into a contentious divorce while he simultaneously ‘treated’ not only Mr. and Mrs. Young, but their children.”
He was fired after it was discovered that he was pressuring one of their kids to side with Mr. Young, even pushing him to make false accusations in the media to pressure him into accepting the suggested financial settlement.
“As the Medical Board’s noose tightens, Dr. Sophy has filed this desperate suit despite repeatedly rejecting attempts by the Medical Board to look into these claims.”
