The family of Paul Di’Anno has revealed how the former Iron Maiden singer passed away last month.

On October 21, Di’Anno, real name Paul Andrews, died at home in Salisbury at the age of 66. His sisters, Cheryl and Michelle, reported on social media that he died from a “tear in the sac around the heart,” which caused his heart to stop.

According to the message, Di’Anno’s death was “instantaneous and hopefully painless”.

It reads in full: “Dear fans and friends, we have received permission from Paul’s family to inform you of Paul’s cause of death once the findings of the autopsy are received. His sisters, Cheryl and Michelle, verified the following: “Basically, he had a tear in the sac around the heart, and blood filled inside it from the main aorta artery, causing the heart to stop.” Paul died instantly, and perhaps painlessly. May he rest peacefully.
