Ice Cube has disclosed that he wanted Dr. Dre to produce his debut solo album, AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted, but Eazy-E prevented it from occurring.

Cube went solo after quitting the N.W.A. in tumultuous circumstances in 1989, yet he still wanted Dre to produce his debut album.

Speaking to Complex’s Idea Generation, the rapper and actor stated, “I still tried to be friends with guys who had nothing to do with the business.” My relationship with Eazy was unstable, and I had no feelings for Jerry Heller, so there was no love lost.

“But I tried to stay together with Dre.” I even wanted Dre to produce my solo album, and we were discussing it, but Eazy and Jerry rejected it.”

Instead of Dre, Public Enemy’s Bomb Squad produced AmeriKKKa’s Most Wanted, and Cube later dissed Dre on the notorious single “No Vaseline” in 1991.

The two N.W.A. co-founders would subsequently collaborate on “Natural Born Killaz” in 1994, which was originally scheduled for Dre and Cube’s collaborative album Heltah Skeltah, which was eventually canceled.

Cube is now preparing to release Man Down, his first album since 2018.

He recently confirmed that the album will be released before the end of the month, and according to an Apple Music tracklist, it will consist of 19 tracks with a number of notable guest appearances.

In addition to Killer Mike and Busta Rhymes, who appear on the new track “Ego Maniacs,” Cube has enlisted a number of West Coast legends for the album.

Snoop Dogg, Xzibit, Kurupt, B-Real, E-40, and Too $hort have all agreed to make cameo appearances on the album, as has October London.

Dre is also in album rollout mode, having produced the entirety of Snoop Dogg’s Missionary, which will be released in December.

Dre will also contribute vocals to the album, as will Eminem, 50 Cent, Method Man, and Jhené Aiko.

Missionary also has some unconventional partners, such as rock great Sting and country sensation Jelly Roll, with one track rumored to strongly sample the late Tom Petty.
