TakeOff, née Kirsnick Khari Ball, was shot and killed outside 810 Billiards and Bowling Alley in Houston on November 1, 2022, following an incident over a heated dice game. He was buried two weeks later in Atlanta, when a large crowd of fans, family, and friends attended the burial.

Following the death of Take, Quavo told his fans, “I miss him a lot and I love him. He is aware that I love him. That is what we always know. So, if you see me smiling or something, don’t assume I forgot about him or that I would forget about him. I think of him all the time. I sometimes weep myself to sleep. And that’s all.”

Quavo also told VIBE in 2023 that he was working on a posthumous record for the murdered rapper.

“The next thing I’ll be working on is the Rockets. Do you understand what I am saying? “Takeoff,” he said, without providing a date. “I’m gathering a ton of information, as well as a lot of producers, friends, and artists. And we’re going to make this one of the most insane albums of all time.”

“So my next mission is to get a Takeoff’s album together.”
