With Katy Perry’s retirement as a judge on American Idol, Luke Bryan discusses many possibilities who might replace her, including Pink, Miley Cyrus, and Meghan Trainor.
Katy Perry has bid her co-stars farewell after seven seasons as a judge on American Idol, focusing on her upcoming sixth studio album, for which she recently announced her first single, which will be released on July 11. But who will take her position as a judge on American Idol? Luke Bryan, a fellow judge, is all too willing to name-drop her potential replacement.

“I’ve mentioned various names. “I believe Pink, Miley Cyrus, and Meghan Trainor have all been in talks,” the country star told Billboard. “It has been interesting. Disney has been quite tight-lipped with me, Lionel [Richie], and Ryan [Seacrest]. We haven’t heard anything about who is returning, or whether Lionel and I will return. I believe Disney is just figuring out what they want to do, and we’re just sitting back and waiting for their decision.”
Luke Bryan, Katy Perry, and Lionel Richie all returned to American Idol for its 16th season in 2018, when ABC revived the competition show after it had aired on Fox from 2002 and 2016. Meghan Trainor, one of the stars Bryan mentioned as prospective replacements for the judge’s panel, has stated that it would be her “dream job.”
“I have begged for this job,” stated Trainor. “It’s my favorite show, and I’ve watched it since I was a child. “I have emailed three awesome people who work in that world, but they don’t have the final say,” she revealed.

Meanwhile, Pink recently told Entertainment Tonight that becoming an American Idol judge isn’t her first choice, and she enjoys her day job. “I don’t like hurting people’s feelings.”
It’s unclear whether Miley Cyrus would be interested in the job if it was offered to her, but the “Flowers” singer, like Katy Perry, is very focused on her musical career. Perry has stated that her music will be her primary priority now that she has left American Idol. She recently unveiled the title of her latest single, “Woman’s World,” which will be released on July 11.
