On Thursday, Billy Joel’s remarkable ten-year run at Madison Square Garden in New York City came to an end.
The legendary musician began the residency in January 2014 and performed there once a month for the following ten years. He became the first person to appear on the arena’s stage 150 times in his lifetime with his final engagement on Thursday.
Talk show host Jimmy Fallon joined Joel to commemorate the milestone by giving him a banner honoring 150 performances at the New York location.
With a “congratulations,” Fallon remarked. “You have my affection. New York City adores you. The entire world adores you. We all have wonderful recollections of coming here thanks to you. We get to witness you develop a memory now. This is a night you will never forget.”

Joel then brought his 1978 hit song My Life to the stage with the help of his two youngest daughters, Della, then eight, and Remy, then six.
Axl Rose, the lead singer of Guns N’ Roses, also joined the Piano Man hitmaker on stage. The two gave performances of Highway to Hell by AC/DC and Live and Let Die by Wings.

Uptown Girl, Only the Good Die Young, Piano Man, It’s Still Rock and Roll to Me, and We Didn’t Start the Fire were among the tunes Joel went on to sing before inviting Axl back on stage for the last song of the evening, You May Be Right.
In August, Joel, 75, will go to the United Kingdom to perform with Chris Isaak at a stadium event in Cardiff, Wales. After that, he’ll do a string of headline performances around North America, often alongside Rod Stewart or Sting on the bill.
