Parlophone Records is pleased to announce the first Dolby Atmos spatial audio release of David Bowie’s THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS. The new mix of the album will be released on Blu-ray Audio on September 6th.

The Blu-Ray audio disc of THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS has four different versions of this legendary album: 2024 Dolby Atmos mix, 2024 Stereo Mix (96 kHz / 24-bit PCM), original 1972 Stereo Mix – 2012 remaster (192 kHz / 24-bit PCM), and original 1972 Stereo Mix – 2012 remaster (48 kHz / 24-bit PCM). Emre Ramazanoglu and Ken Scott mixed the Atmos version of the album in London’s RAK Studios.

Ahead of the release, Mick Rock, a late Bowie colleague and photographer, has presented previously unseen film from the Ziggy Stardust tour taken in the UK between 1972 and 1973, with the album version of “Starman” serving as the music.

Ken Scott, the album’s co-producer, said of the new Dolby Atmos mix: “You’re in there with the act, David. He was very theatrical, and I believe that putting him in an immersive environment makes this an excellent candidate for an Atmos remix. My entire philosophy with this has been to make it more of a live experience. And I’ve even got him moving around the stage a little at the conclusion, as he would in real life. Hopefully, it will feel like you’re in a theatre seeing an amazing show.”

THE RISE AND FALL OF ZIGGY STARDUST AND THE SPIDERS FROM MARS was David Bowie’s breakthrough record, catapulting him into the international spotlight. Over the last 50 years, it has remained a touchstone album, gaining prominence with each passing year. It has now been engrained in popular culture, with undeniable influences ranging from Arcade Fire to Lady Gaga, Harry Styles’ androgynous fashion sense, Noel Fielding’s shirts on The Great British Bake-Off, and Ziggy make-up competitions on Tik-Tok. David Bowie retired the Ziggy Stardust persona in July 1973 after his infamous final gig with the Spiders From Mars at London’s Hammersmith Odeon, but Ziggy’s influence continues to this day.
